The video that people are watching today was made last month, when Bette Midler surprised superfan Anna Greenberg with a cell phone call.
The Arizona woman, 28, a long-time fan of Midler’s, lay dying of a rare form of cancer in a hospital bed.
Greenberg’s brother, Aaron, recorded the surprise phone call to his sister on his cell phone and posted it to her Facebook page.
“You’re such an angel. You’re such a wonderful soul and I am so glad that I got the chance to meet you,” Midler told Greenberg.
The two met in December when Midler invited Greenberg to the premiere of her movie “Parental Guidance.”
“You have always brought me up when I was down, with many of your different songs,” Greenberg told Midler during the phone call.
Greenberg worked for the American Cancer Society when she was diagnosed with the disease in October 2011. After her diagnosis, she used the disease to help young people understand how cancer can affect anyone, at any age.
During their phone conversation, she asked Midler to sing her hit song, the tearjerker anthem from “Beaches” – “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
Midler fought back her emotions to get through the song.
Three days later, Greenberg asked for her hospital bed to be rolled close to the window so she could watch the sunset with her parents, according to her obituary.
Her father loved sunsets.
They watched the sunset.
And then, Anna Greenberg died.
