I-435 resurfacing project to start Monday in Johnson County

Crews will be working overnight to repair and resurface Interstate 435 between East 95th Street and Midland Drive.

A construction project that begins next week in Lenexa and Shawnee might be an incentive for drivers to get home early.

Work begins Monday, weather permitting, on a concrete pavement repair and resurfacing project along a 2.5 mile stretch of Interstate 435.

The work will take place along both northbound and southbound I-435 between 95th Street and Midland Drive.

Crews will work overnight, closing two lanes of the interstate from 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays to 5:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. Saturdays when all lanes reopen.

There could be some occasional daytime work Mondays through Fridays.

Crews will do partial and full-depth patching to the existing concrete pavement. The ramps at 87th Street and Midland Drive will also be worked on. The patching will be followed by an asphalt overlay on the interstate’s mainlines and ramp lanes. The shoulders will receive a chip seal pavement treatment.

Message boards will alert drivers to the construction and lane and ramp closures. Drivers can expect signs and cones directing them through the work zone.

Speeds will be limited to 55 mph during working hours, and drivers should expect delays.

The $942,000 project is expected to be completed by late August.
