All lanes of southbound Interstate 35 in Liberty have reopened, as has the ramp from Missouri 291 to I-35.
The roadway was returned to normal about 4:45 p.m., said Kerri Lewis, a spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The highway had been closed since a crash about 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the construction zone of the new I-35/Missouri 291 interchange. A semitrailer carrying a heavy load of paper overturned.
No one was significantly injured in the the crash that blocked I-35 just south of Missouri 291, Lewis said. Southbound I-35 traffic, however, quickly backed up. For a while, traffic was being forced off at Missouri 291.
Because of the bridge construction, traffic is already congested in the area. Drivers were being directed onto Church Road and also southbound Missouri 291 to try to keep traffic flowing through the area, Lewis said.
