The Kansas City Health Department on Tuesday reported the first suspected area heat death of the year.
The Jackson County medical examiner’s office notified the Health Department about three weeks ago that it was investigating the death of a woman born in 1947 as possibly heat related.
The Health Department urged people to take heat precautions. The National Weather Service is predicting that heat indexes may approach 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. The mild weather to date, followed by a quick rise in temperatures, may increase the likelihood of heat-related illnesses, the Health Department said.
