A Michigan man was arrested by Lenexa police early Sunday after he was found with a teenager who had been reported as a runaway.
Lenexa police said that after family of the 16-year-old girl reported her missing Saturday, investigators discovered that she had been having an online relationship with the 46-year-old Michigan man.
The man and girl were found together near a Lenexa motel, according to police.
On Monday, Johnson County prosecutors charged Richard J. Smith of Holland, Mich., with felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child and contributing to a child’s misconduct.
According to court documents, the exploitation charge involves the possession of sexually explicit photos or videos involving a child younger than 18. The misconduct charge alleges that he aided the runaway to avoid detection.
A judge set Smith’s bond at $25,000.
