A Kansas City police officer shot a suspect who pulled a gun shortly after 4 p.m. Monday in the Northeast area.
Police spokesman Capt. Tye Grant said the officer and a partner were on patrol when they recognized a man on foot who was a person of interest in a criminal investigation. The man ran when the officers tried to approach him. After a short foot chase, the man displayed a weapon and pointed it at the officers. One of the officers shot him near Smart and Wheeling avenues, Grant said.
The man was taken to a hospital with a life-threatening injury.
Neither officer was hurt. The Police Department will investigate the incident. No other details were immediately available.
