The staff of new UMKC men’s basketball coach Kareem Richardson is complete.
The Kangaroos are expected to announce the hiring of assistant coaches Angres Thorpe, Sean Bledsoe and Jason Sautter on Wednesday.
Thorpe spent the past two seasons at Toledo’s associate head coach, moving to that program from Wisconsin-Green Bay, when Phoenix head coach Todd Kowalczyk took the Toledo job. Before that, Thorpe spent six seasons at Saint Louis and two at Ball State.
Thorpe will be UMKC’s associate head coach.
Bledsoe spent 10 years as an assistant at Cleveland State and Bowling Green before getting into training and showcasing prospects. Bledsoe ran an exposure camp and founded an AAU team that produced among other players Michigan State Gary Harris, the Big Ten freshman of the year.
Sautter’s background is in the junior college ranks. He spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Seward County, and the Saints won Jayhawk West conference titles both years. He spent the previous seven seasons in Texas junior colleges, including three as a head coach at Western Texas College.
Bledsoe and Sautter will serve as assistant coaches.
Also, UMKC has elevated Conner Hampton from graduate assistant to director of basketball operations and hired former Kangaroos standout Spencer Johnson as graduate assistant. Johnson, who played from 2007-11, set a school records for rebounds in a career and season.
Richardson, a former Louisville assistant, was introduced as UMKC’s head coach during the Cardinals’ run to the national championship.
