Independence Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit announced it will conduct a sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrol this weekend.
Police said the special enforcement effort is to identify and arrest drunken drivers before they injure someone.
They also hope the checkpoint serves as a deterrent to those who see it but do not pass through it.
The checkpoint and saturation patrol will be conducted in an area known for alcohol-related arrests and crashes.
