A Kansas City convenience store owner shot and wounded a 15-year-old boy who allegedly broke into his store early Friday.

The Snack Pack store at 4455 Prospect Ave. was closed at 1:30 a.m. Friday when someone broke the front window, but the owner was sleeping on a cot inside. The owner said he shot the intruder in the abdomen out of fear.

Police arrived and found the owner and the wounded teen still inside the store. The teen was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and later released to the juvenile jail.

Detectives determined that the owner acted in self-defense, said Police Capt. Tye Grant, a department spokesman.
