Lenexa police are looking for a man who robbed a convenience store early Monday after allegedly trying to hold up another one moments earlier.
The first attempt took place at 4:15 a.m. at JB’s One Stop Convenience Store in the 13000 block of West 95th Street. Police said a man asked the clerk for cigarettes. As the clerk retrieved them, the man said he was armed with a gun but did not display a weapon.
The man fled empty-handed when the clerk threatened to call police.
Authorities said they believe the same man held up the Quik Trip, 11000 Pflumm Road, at 4:22 a.m. That robber brandished a yellow box cutter and demanded cigarettes and cash, which the clerk gave him. The robber fled west from the store.
Just before 2 a.m. on Monday, police said a man held up the Quik Trip at 4700 Lamar in Mission. In that robbery, a man took cash from the store clerk and fled, police said.
Mission police are speaking with Lenexa police about the robberies. So far, authorities have made no connections between the incidents.
The robber is described as an African-American male in his 20s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 170 pounds. He wore a dark stocking hat and a dark wool jacket.
Persons with information about the robberies should call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).
