Industrial accident victim identified

Police have identified the victim of a Friday night industrial accident as William A. Prater, of Kansas City.

Prater, 68, was part of a crew demolishing an old building at 1225 W. Eighth St. The fire department was dispatched at 6:34 p.m. on what was described as a non-life-threatening structure collapse. Police responded about 7 p.m. on a medical call and found the man dead.

Witnesses told police a construction crew was in the process of demolition when part of the structure collapsed on top of Prater. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified.
