Southbound I-35 in Northland reopens after fiery crash early in rush hour

Crashes in south Kansas City also slowed commuters this morning.

A fiery crash involving several vehicles forced the closure of southbound Interstate 35 in the Northland for about an hour and a half early Wednesday.

The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. near the ramp from Chouteau Trafficway. The highway reopened about 7:15 a.m.

The extent of injuries were not immediately available.

Authorities closed southbound I-35 at Cheateau Trafficway, which quickly caused traffic to back up beyond Interstate 435 to the north.

Traffic headed into downtown detoured on Cheateau Trafficway to Missouri 210 in North Kansas City.

Motorists headed into downtown from the Liberty area should consider alternate routes, including Interstate 435 and Missouri 291.

Meanwhile in the southern part of the Kansas City area, two vehicles collided on northbound Interstate 49 near Blue Ridge Boulevard about 6:25 a.m., forcing the two left lanes to be closed.

At about the same time, a multi-vehicle collision along westbound Interstate 435 at 103rd Street closed the right lane and right shoulder. Three lanes remained open.

All lanes reopened about 7:20 a.m.

At 6:30 a.m., a multi-vehicle crash along westbound Interstate 470 at Blue Ridge Boulevard closed the left lane and the left shoulder. All lanes reopened about 7:20 a.m.

And then at 7 a.m., a two-vehicle collision along westbound Interstate 70 at Van Brunt Boulevard forced the right two lanes and shoulder to close. Only one lane was open.
