A Baldwin City man escaped injury early Saturday after being taken from a burning house.

Police and fire crews responding to a 1:30 a.m. alarm in the Douglas County community entered the residence and found the man sleeping on a couch.

Damages are estimated to be $150,000 to the house, its contents and a pickup truck parked near the structure, said Allen Craig, Baldwin City fire chief.

The cause of the fire remained undetermined on Saturday afternoon, Craig added.
