Kansas City police arrested a 19-year-old and two juveniles in a parking garage on the Country Club Plaza Thursday night in connection the robbery and beating of a man in a different parking garage west of the Plaza early Tuesday.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Derrick L. Sanders, 19, of Kansas City, with two counts of robbery. He was in jail today in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

Sanders is accused of participating in the holdup just after midnight Tuesday morning on the ground floor of the garage at 801 W. 47th St. The 19-year-old victim had just parked when three men wearing masks accosted him. One had a gun. The gunman struck the victim in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground. The other masked men punched and kicked him before stealing his iPad, cell phone and wallet.

Sanders also is accused of swiping a computer tablet from a man Sunday who was standing in a parking lot at 38th Street and Warwick Boulevard.

Plaza security guards spotted the three teens in the parking garage Thursday night and called police because their teal Pontiac matched the description of a car used in the robberies.

A 30-year-old woman was robbed in a similar crime last month in a parking garage west of the Plaza, but the two suspects in that crime drove a white Hyundai.
