The Kansas City Health Department temporarily closed two food establishments following complaints.

North China Restaurant, at 3805 Broadway, was closed on Thursday when an inspector found multiple violations. A customer had complained that the restaurant was “in unsanitary condition,” according to the report.

North China Restaurant may not prepare, cook, serve or sell any foods to the public until all risk factor violations are corrected and an inspector observes violations are corrected. The restaurant also must submit a corrective action plan stating how each violation was corrected and what they will do to ensure that the violations do not re-occur.

Restaurant officials couldn’t be reached for comment this morning.

The department also issued a "cease operation" notice to Santora's Pizza at 3834 Main St. Friday after an inspector noted that the roof was leaking in two areas of the kitchen.

Santora's Pizza faxed a corrective action plan and a request for re-inspection later in the day. An inspector went back to the facility, verified the corrected violations, and allowed Santora's to reopen on Friday.

“We got a bunch of rain that had come in the last couple of days and the landlord couldn’t get anyone out until today,” said Anthony Santora, owner.

One of the customer complaints was about a cashier wearing prep gloves while handling money. But the cashier was not touching ready-to-eat food so did not need to wear gloves while working the front area.
