Kansas City police are looking for two men who barged into a south Kansas City jewelry store Tuesday, pulled out a hammer and smashed display cases to steal pricey rings.

The robbery occurred about 1:45 p.m. at Lichtenberg’s Fine Jewelry, 13137 State Line Road. One man had been in the store earlier, asking to see women’s rings, police said. He then left.

When he returned, an employee buzzed him in, thinking he was ready to make a purchase. Instead, the man’s partner also ran in, holding a bag containing a hammer.

The partner started smashing the cases containing the rings scouted by the other robber earlier.

Two employees fled. Police were checking whether the store’s video surveillance system recorded the incident. It was unclear how many rings the robbers took.
