Kansas City police arrested a 24-year-old suspect in the fatal hit-and-run wreck that killed a motorcyclist early Sunday, but later released him, pending further investigation.
The suspect lives in Kansas, has a previous arrest for driving under the influence and declined to speak with investigators, police said. Detectives said they have more work to do before they seek charges.
Police tracked down the suspect through his pickup truck, which was left at the scene.
The victim, Leroy A. Bronson, 57, of Belton, was driving south on Wornall Road when a pickup truck westbound on Bannister Road struck his motorcycle about 12:30 a.m. The driver of the pickup abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Witnesses told police the pickup was moving at a high speed and may have run a stoplight.
Bronson’s wife and 11-year-old daughter were killed in July 2011 after their car collided with a car heading the wrong way on Interstate 435 near 63rd Street. The driver that killed them had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.
