Kansas City police are looking for a man who shot two bystanders early Sunday in the Power & Light District.

Stray gunfire apparently hit the victims, police said. A 38-year-old man suffered a shoulder wound, and a 28-year-old woman was struck in the leg about 2:45 a.m. near 13th Street and Grand Boulevard.

Police said three people leaving the entertainment district had gotten into a dispute with another group. Police were investigating whether the trio had said something derogatory to the other group or fired a gun.

The three were in a vehicle backing away from the other group’s vehicle when someone in the other group opened fire. Their vehicle was hit seven times, but none of the three occupants was injured. They left and did not call police. The gunman’s vehicle also fled.

Two bleeding victims were left on the sidewalk. The male victim flagged down a police officer. The female victim was shot as she was exchanging phone numbers with a man, police said.

When detectives asked the trio why they didn’t call police, one of them said, “That’s a good question.” Another occupant of the car said he was intoxicated.
