North Kansas City on Tuesday delayed entering into an agreement to study expanding Kansas City’s starter streetcar system into the Northland.
North Kansas City’s council members are considering an agreement with Kansas City to fund a study of running a streetcar line across the Heart of America Bridge and north to 32nd Avenue. Under the agreement, each city would pay up to $250,000 for the study.
After some residents voiced opposition to the measure, council members decided to table the issue until its next meeting, on April 16.
The delay allows council members to hear from residents, said Matt Shatto, North Kansas City administrator.
The delay means the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for the Kansas City Council will postpone considering the measure until North Kansas City decides whether to move forward with the partnership and study.
