The suspected carjackers didn’t travel far, but their alleged crime led to a two-hour police standoff in Kansas City.
Police arrested six men for allegedly carjacking a woman’s vehicle in a grocery store parking lot and then dumping it a few blocks away.
A woman told police she was leaving the Thriftway store at 4400 E. 39th St. about 9 p.m. Tuesday when six men, one armed with a gun, approached her and took her car.
The market is on the east side of Seven Oaks Park at Kessington Avenue and 39th Street.
About a half hour later, her unoccupied car was spotted parked behind a house in the 3600 block of Jackson Avenue, north of the west side of the park.
A witness told police that the suspected carjackers had walked to a nearby house. Police surrounded the house in the 3500 block of Spruce Avenue and six men surrendered about 11:30 p.m.
Charges could be filed later today.
