19 people arrested for drunken driving at Olathe checkpoint

Olathe police arrested 19 people for allegedly driving drunk during a sobriety checkpoint on Friday night.

The checkpoint stopped eastbound traffic on East Santa Fe Street at Lindenwood Drive.

Police stopped 1,289 vehicles at the checkpoint that ran from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday.

In addition to arrests for drunken driving, officers arrested two people on drug related charges, two for transporting an open container and one on an outstanding warrant.

Police also issued 27 citations for driver’s license violations, one for child seat belt violation, two for license plate violations and two for avoiding the check lane.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office along with other agencies assisted Olathe officers with the checkpoint, which was funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
