A Merriam home day care operator has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child in her care.
Tamara Lynne Benhassine, 33, was charged in Johnson County District Court, where she is scheduled to make her initial court appearance next Wednesday. She was released from custody Monday after posting a $5,000 bond, according to court records.
The felony charge of aggravated child endangerment involves a toddler who was caused to be “placed in a situation in which the child’s life, body or health is injured or endangered,” according to a criminal complaint. Prosecutors said they could not discuss details because the case is pending.
The alleged crime occurred sometime between Jan. 10 and Jan. 16, according to the complaint.
Benhassine voluntarily surrendered her day care license on Jan. 17, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The department said it began investigating the day care after receiving a complaint about alleged injuries to a child.
