Kansas City police are investigating a suspicious death after a Jackson County employee found a woman’s body in melting snow on Raytown Road near Eastern Avenue on Monday.
The employee, who was picking up trash along the road, called police at 10:14 a.m. after seeing the partially decomposed body in a creek bed not far from the road. There were no obvious traumatic wounds to the body, but police said the death appeared suspicious because of the location.
“There’s nothing out here,” said Officer Darin Snapp, a police spokesman. “There’s really no reason for anybody to be out here.”
The body appeared to have been dumped down a 10-foot ravine into the creek bed. It appeared to have been at the scene about two days, police said.
Police were trying to identify the victim through fingerprints. They also were reviewing missing-person reports.
The scene is in a wooded area southwest of the Kansas City Chiefs’ training facility.
