Kansas City police arrested a 27-year-old man after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the back early today in his Northland house.

An officer stopped the man’s car just before 4 a.m. after he ran a stop sign while taking his girlfriend to a hospital. She remained in serious, but stable condition, police said.

The 21-year-old girlfriend told police the couple had been out in the Westport entertainment district, where her boyfriend was involved in an altercation. Afterward, they returned to her boyfriend’s home in the 9200 block of N.E. Paw Paw Drive. She told police she went outside to fetch something from her boyfriend’s car when she heard two gunshots, felt pain in her back and saw a small red car drive away.

But police later determined the shooting occurred inside the boyfriend’s home, where he apparently had fired shots through an interior wall, hitting the victim, who also was inside.
