A 3-year-old Independence girl wandered away from home this morning while her older sister was busy shoveling snow.

The child’s mother did not want the toddler outside but she went out anyway, said Tom Gentry, the police spokesman.

The older child did not notice that the youngster had walked away. The wandering girl was spotted about 10:30 a.m. at a nearby grocery store near Truman Road and River Boulevard.

She was returned home unharmed.
