The roof of a three-story apartment building near Rosedale Park in Kansas City, Kan., partially collapsed about 2:30 this afternoon.
No one was injured, Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Shirley said.
The roof collapsed on the west end of the 12-unit building at 2903 W. 42nd Ave.
The building was determined unfit for occupancy but residents were escorted in to retrieve some of their belongings. The American Red Cross was assisting the displaced tenants.
Connie Murphy, who said she had lived in the building for 10 years, said it was frustrating to have to leave the building on such a cold day.
“But we had to evacuate for our safety,” she said.
Damage was estimated at $40,000.
