GM Fairfax closes

Weather idles KCK plant until Friday night.

General Motors has decided to send first-shift workers home this morning because of increasingly bad road conditions.

First and second shift employees are required to return to work at normal start time Friday, and third shift should report to work Friday night for a Saturday shift. Employees will all work a Saturday shift at regular business hours as well.

The plant employs about 4,000 people on the three shifts.

Here is the letter to employees:

As a result of the weather impact on our production schedule we will be working on Saturday, February 23.

For Saturday production, 3rd shift employees should report to work at regular start time on Friday, February 22, 2013. 1st and 2nd shift employees will also work at their regular start times on Friday, February 22, 2013.
