General Motors has decided to send first-shift workers home this morning because of increasingly bad road conditions.
First and second shift employees are required to return to work at normal start time Friday, and third shift should report to work Friday night for a Saturday shift. Employees will all work a Saturday shift at regular business hours as well.
The plant employs about 4,000 people on the three shifts.
Here is the letter to employees:
To All General Motors Fairfax Assembly Employees,
For the safety and well-being of all employees who work at the Fairfax Assembly Plant, General Motors has made the decision to stop production and close the plant as of 10:30AM, this morning, Thursday, February 21, 2013. The plant will remained closed today, Thursday, February 21, 2013, for 2nd shift.
3rd shift is canceled as well for employees who would report on Thursday night, for their Friday shift.
We will resume regular production tomorrow, Friday, February 22, 2013 with 1st shift reporting at their regular start time of 6:30AM and 2nd shift reporting at their regular start time at 2:30PM.
As a result of the weather impact on our production schedule we will be working on Saturday, February 23.
For Saturday production, 3rd shift employees should report to work at regular start time on Friday, February 22, 2013. 1st and 2nd shift employees will also work at their regular start times on Friday, February 22, 2013.
