Speeds exceeded 100 mph as Kansas City police chased a robbery suspect this afternoon, eventually catching him in Kansas City, Kan., after the suspect clipped the back of another vehicle and wrecked at 51st Street and Georgia Avenue.

Authorities said the pursuit began at around 4 p.m., in Kansas City and continued on Interstate 70 and into Kansas City, Kan. The driver exited the interstate onto 78th Street and spent at least 10 minutes leading police through neighborhoods, including past a playground and through various parking lots. He also drove against traffic for a time.

Police said the SUV driver may have been connected with a robbery that occurred earlier this week.

After the suspect bailed out of the damaged SUV, he ran around a house and tried to hide in shrubs, but police quickly spotted him and pulled him from his hiding place. The suspect was taken to a hospital but his injuries were not considered serious.
