Drivers in southern Johnson County will face major delays and detours if they use westbound Interstate 435 to get home after a night out Friday.
All lanes of westbound I-435 at U.S. 69 will be closed Friday night into Saturday morning for bridge construction work.
Kansas highway officials are warning drivers to expect delays.
The lanes will close at 10 p.m. Friday and are scheduled to stay closed until 8 a.m. Saturday.
While westbound I-435 is closed, crews will install girders for the new ramp bridge to take traffic from southbound U.S. 69 to the College Boulevard exit. The bridge spans eastbound and westbound I-435.
In addition to the I-435 closure, the ramp from Antioch Road to westbound I-435 will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday. Also the left lane of the ramp from southbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. The ramp’s right lane will remain open.
Message boards will alert drivers to the lane and ramp closures.
Westbound I-435 traffic will detour onto northbound U.S. 69 to westbound 87th Street to southbound Interstate 35, where it will get back onto westbound I-435.
