An 18-year-old Kansas City man on Saturday was charged with murder in a fatal shooting in Gladstone that authorities believe was the violent end to a drug deal.
Clay County prosecutors charged Curtisee M. Golden with second-degree murder and felony armed criminal action for the fatal shooting of Ashton Gann, 23.
Golden was found by police after being shot early Friday. He was the second victim police discovered at the Sun Gate apartment complex.
The shootings occurred Friday at the apartment complex in the 6800 block of North Broadway Avenue, police said.
While investigating Gann’s shooting, police were told about Golden. He had been shot in the abdomen and was taken to a hospital.
Golden was in police custody Saturday. His bond was set at $750,000.
According to court documents, Gann and a friend had gone to the apartment to allegedly sell cocaine to a man there.
When they arrived, Gann and his friend met the buyer, who was with an unknown man who identified himself as Junior. The friend initially didn’t tell police the shootings involved a drug deal, saying he was scared to do so.
Golden matched the description for Junior that Gann’s friend gave police. The friend also identified Golden for police.
The buyer gave a conflicting account, suggesting Gann tried to rob him. The buyer said Gann shot Golden, prompting Golden to return fire.
