The murder trial of a Lee’s Summit lawyer accused of using a forged document to kill her father has been delayed until November 2013.
Susan “Liz” Van Note, 44, charged with forgery and first-degree murder, appeared Monday in Boone County Circuit Court in Columbia.
Prosecutors say she attacked William Van Note, 67, and his longtime girlfriend, Sharon Dickson, at a Lake of the Ozarks home in 2010. Dickson died at the scene of injuries from gunshots and stabbings.
William Van Note, a millionaire businessman in Liberty, died days later of a gunshot to the head after Susan Van Note appeared at the Columbia hospital with a document that said she had power to make end-of-life decisions for her father. Based on that authority, doctors removed him from life support.
Prosecutors say she forged her father’s signature to the document.
A grand jury charged her in September. She is free after posting a $1 million cash bond.
