A 16-year-old Roeland Park boy was injured Saturday afternoon in an accidental shooting during a hunting trip with his father.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Department said the injuries occurred just before 1 p.m. as the father exited his vehicle and reached to get his hunting rifle from behind the seat. The rifle discharged, and the bullet struck the son’s rifle scope.
Fragments from the round hit the boy in the left hand and abdominal area, according to a sheriff’s release. The boy was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The extent of his injuries wasn’t known Saturday evening.
The sheriff’s department and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism are investigating.
