Prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old Kansas City woman in the Nov. 4 shooting death of her live-in boyfriend.

Tyree Patterson-Terrill made her initial appearance Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court, where she is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Anthony Medellin.

Medellin, 28, was shot to death inside an apartment in the 4300 block of Northern Avenue.

According to court documents, Patterson-Terrill told police that after she locked herself in a bathroom during an argument, Medellin forced open the door, hit her in the head and burned her face with a cigarette. She allegedly told police that when he came toward her a second time and she thought he was going to attack her again, she fired one shot from a handgun.

Police said they did not note any signs of injury to Patterson-Terrill’s face or arms.
