A Kansas City, Kan., man with eight drunken driving convictions has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Ricky E. Stroble, 51, received the maximum punishment in Missouri for driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced Thursday in Platte County Circuit Court.

Stroble had pleaded guilty in March 2011, but fled Platte County before sentencing. He was later caught driving drunk again in Johnson County, Kan. Despite Stroble’s history, he was eligible to be charged only with a misdemeanor under Kansas law and served 90 days in jail.

“Fortunately, the changes we made to the law in Missouri a few years ago allow us to lock away chronic drunk drivers for lengthy terms,” said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.
