Because of continuing problems with the state’s new vehicle registration system, Kansas officials are asking law enforcement not to issue tickets to drivers whose vehicle tags expire today.
The Kansas Department of Revenue announced Friday that the grace period has been extended to July 13. It will apply to those with last names starting in H or I, or vehicles with 30-day temporary tags.
Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan said in a news release that a widespread slowdown occurred Friday, reducing the number of transactions that employees could process. A Johnson County official said a breakdown in the statewide computer system occurred Thursday.
Motor vehicle offices are typically busiest at the end of the month because many drivers renew their tags just before the monthly deadline.
