A judge has given a 21-year-old Leawood woman a five-year suspended sentence for a drunken-driving accident in Westport last year that severely injured a pedestrian.
Jackson County Circuit Judge Peggy Stevens McGraw on Thursday warned Alexandria K. Brewer that she could face seven years in prison unless she successfully completes several special conditions of the sentence.
The judge ordered Brewer to complete substance abuse and alcohol monitoring programs, use an ignition interlock device on any vehicle she operates, avoid businesses where alcohol is a major sale item and counsel students on the consequences of driving while drunk.
Prosecutors charged Brewer last year with second-degree assault for losing control of her car and striking another vehicle in the 4000 block of Broadway. The impact drove the second vehicle into pedestrian Samantha E. Tomacelli, who suffered three skull fractures and a pelvic fracture.
According to court records, Brewer had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
