Authorities said they think a 59-year-old man who recently escaped from a Lansing prison may be in the downtown Kansas City area.
Gary Leslie Furthmyer walked away from his minimum-custody assignment at the prison’s steam plant on April 18.
He was serving a six- to 25-year sentence after being convicted in 1985 of indecent liberties with a child and aggravated failure to appear. He previously escaped in 1988 and returned to prison in 1993, according to his prison history.
Authorities described Furthmyer as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 185 pounds. He may have grown his hair out or may have facial hair.
Furthmyer may have been seen at transient shelters along Eighth Street in downtown Kansas City.
