Ongoing highway improvements will mean the closure of two more busy ramps in Johnson County this spring and summer.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, the ramp from westbound Interstate 435 to southbound U.S. 69 will close.
Then at 9 a.m. Friday, the ramp from southbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 will close.
In both cases, the closures will allow for reconstruction of the ramps. The work is expected to last through November. In the meantime, motorists on westbound I-435 will be detoured via Metcalf Avenue and Blue Valley Parkway to southbound U.S. 69. Motorists on southbound U.S. 69 will go first to eastbound College Boulevard, double back on northbound U.S. 69 and then go to westbound I-435.
The Kansas Department of Transportation cautions drivers to expect delays.
The ramp work is part of a larger, $102 million improvement called the “Red Project” that began late last summer and is expected to be completed late in 2013. Bridges on Quivira Road over I-435 are being replaced, causing ramp closures there as well.
