The U.S. Senate confirmed Jackson County Circuit Judge Brian C. Wimes to the Missouri federal bench late Monday afternoon by a 92-1 vote.
President Barack Obama nominated Wimes in September, and the Senate Judiciary Committee gave its approval in December.
In a written statement, Wimes thanked Obama and U.S. Sens. Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt of Missouri for their support.
“I look forward to serving the citizens of the United States,” Wimes said.
Wimes joined the Jackson County Circuit Court in 2001 as a drug court commissioner. Gov. Matt Blunt appointed him to the circuit bench in 2007. He also worked as an assistant prosecutor for Jackson County.
“Brian Wimes has been a steady fixture in this courthouse for close to two decades,” said Presiding Judge Charles E. Atwell. “He is a valued colleague and friend to all of us on the Jackson County Court, and he will be missed.”
