Three people are in custody in connection with the early Sunday killings of two people in Kansas City, Kan., a Metro Squad spokesman said today.
Investigators are scheduled to meet with Wyandotte County prosecutors later this afternoon to discuss possible charges.
The squad of detectives from area police agencies was called in to assist Kansas City, Kan., police to investigate the shooting deaths of Keith E. Barrett and Renesha Jones.
Barrett, 21, of Kansas City, Kan., and Jones, 16, of Kansas City, were killed inside an apartment in the 2100 block of South Mill Street. Barrett’s infant son was wounded. Jones was the baby’s aunt had been babysitting.
Police were called to the apartment about 2 a.m. Sunday after witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots.
Squad spokesman Detective Jay Thompson said detectives have been working 17-hour days and have been aided by calls to the TIPS Hotline.
He said the squad is continuing to work on the case and anyone with information is asked to call the hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Metro Squad at 913-573-6141.
