Basehor has only two City Council members after one councilman resigned Monday in the wake of a triple recall election.
Councilman Fred Box’s resignation leaves just David Breuer and Travis Miles on the five-person council in the Leavenworth County town.
Voters recalled Mayor Terry Hill and council members Dennis Mertz and Iris Dysart in a special election last week.
Box was the only council member who was in alliance with Mertz and Dysart, according to Kansas City Star reporting partner KCTV-5.
Box resigned when it became clear that the remaining members would not vote to make him mayor and that being a dissenting vote would cause more conflict, KCTV-5 reported.
Lloyd Martley, interim city administrator, said the two remaining council members will meet as scheduled March 19 and elect a president among themselves. The appointed president will become mayor, and the mayor will appoint people to the remaining open council seats, Martley said. The full Council will then elect a new council president.
