The Leavenworth County Sheriff’s office this afternoon identified the two men killed Wednesday in a murder-suicide.
The murder victim was John J. O’Brien Jr., 66, who lived outside Lansing in rural Leavenworth County, said Leavenworth County Undersheriff Ron Cranor.
O’Brien was shot to death by Kenneth McClellan, 32, of Leavenworth, who later killed himself, Cranor said.
The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. after McClellan forced open the door to O’Brien’s home in the 25000 block of 164th Street. McClellan fatally shot O’Brien in the chest.
McClellan also injured O’Brien’s daughter, who fled from the house. Initially it was thought that McClellan also had shot her. Upon examination at the hospital, it was determine she had been struck in the face with the gun, Cranor said. She was treated and released.
McClellan left through the back door of the house and fatally shot himself.
O’Brien’s wife was home at the time, but was not injured.
Cranor said McClellan knew his victims. The daughter had an estranged relationship with McClellan, but the extent of the relationship was not known. It had turned bad and they had not been together for some time, Cranor said.
