Blue Springs police on Tuesday identified the woman whose body was found in rural Cass County on Sunday as Peggie Perez, 48, a Blue Springs resident.

Jackson County authorities have charged two brothers in connection with Perez’s death. On Sunday, authorities charged Lance Gross, 52, with abandonment of a corpse after he led police to her body in a Cass County creek near Garden City.

Martin “Scott” Gross, 49, of Lee’s Summit, also has been charged with abandonment of a corpse in the case. He is not in custody.

Lance Gross told police that he injected Perez with Valium on Jan. 20 while they were having sex and also used a dog collar to choke her, according to court records. He allegedly left the body in his home for three days before he and his brother allegedly took it to Cass County.

Authorities released no further information on Perez at the request of her family.
