A Blue Springs man was charged with abandonment of a corpse Sunday after he led police to a woman’s body in a Cass County creek.
Lance S. Gross, 52, was being held in Jackson County Jail Sunday night, and Jackson County prosecutors requested a $150,000 bond.
Police interviewed Gross on Saturday. He led police and Cass County sheriff’s detectives to the woman’s body in the creek about two miles west of Garden City about 11 a.m. Sunday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker and police said.
Gross told detectives that he and another man dumped the body there on Jan. 23, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement. Blue Springs police still were trying to locate the second man Sunday night, said police spokesman J. Kevin Tieman.
The name of the woman — an acquaintance of Gross — was not released because relatives still needed to be notified, Tieman said.
Gross is expected to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Monday in Jackson County Court in Independence, Tieman said. The probable cause affidavit with details of the case will be released Monday, Baker’s statement said.
The investigation is ongoing, Tieman said.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Blue Springs police at 816-785-4409.
