Authorities charged a 20-year-old Kansas City man this morning in the Christmas Eve robbery and killing of a man in east Kansas City.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Adrian M. Botello with second-degree felony murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Joseph T. Jones.

Police found Jones shot to death in the street near 24th Street and Denver Avenue.

Botello also was charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.

Prosecutors allege that Botello and several others lured Jones from his home with the intent to rob him. Botello and another man, who has not been charged, confronted Jones as he walked down the street and demanded money, according to court documents. Jones charged Botello and began fighting with him. The other man then shot Jones and rifled through his pockets before fleeing, according to the allegations.
