Rescue crews helped pull a 54-year-old Kansas City man from the river Friday afternoon near Kaw Point, authorities said.
The Kansas City, Kan., fire department said crews responded to a report about 4 p.m. of a man holding on to tree limbs at Kaw Point. They saw the man on the opposite side of the river bank close to the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers. Boat crews were able to get close enough to pull him from the river.
He was treated for exhaustion and minor abrasions. The victim told crews he was fishing on the bank and his fishing line got caught on tree limbs. As he tried to untangle the line he slipped and fell into the river. He was carried downstream by the current but managed to grab onto overhanging branches to avoid being swept away.
