A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition after a wreck Sunday on Swope Parkway in Kansas City, according to police.
The wreck was reported about 10:30 a.m. Sunday near 59th Street and Swope Parkway, according to Sgt. Bill Mahoney, an accident investigation supervisor at the Kansas City Police Department.
The child was riding in an SUV headed eastbound on 59th Street that was hit by a silver Pontiac headed north on Swope Parkway.
The child was in a rear seat of the SUV when the wreck occurred, Mahoney said. Witnesses said the child was ejected from the SUV, though police have not confirmed that.
There was a child's car seat in the SUV and police are investigating whether the child was properly restrained, Mahoney said.
The child's mother was driving the SUV and was taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Pontiac was also taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The police investigation into the wreck continues.
