Municipal elections will be held in Missouri Tuesday, with public offices in more than 70 cities, towns and school boards on the ballot. Here are the essentials for Kansas City area voters:
When: Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
What: Biggest question on the Kansas City ballot is the proposed 20-year extension of the 1-cent sales tax for capital improvements. It nets an estimated $70 million a year for streets, sidewalks, maintenance and new infrastructure. City officials say renewal of tax is critical to financing a replacement for the aging Buck O'Neil Bridge.
What else: Several localities, including Belton and Blue Springs, are asking for approval of a local use tax for most on-line retail purchases. Smithville and Kearney are among the cities seeking to sell bonds for road or school improvements. Mayors in at least nine jurisdictions are on the ballot. Seven are incumbents running unopposed.
