A peace walk will be held Friday in Olathe to honor the life of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, who was killed last year in a shooting at Austins Bar & Grill.
The shooting is an alleged hate crime; the shooter was heard by witnesses yelling, "Get out of my country."
Sunayana Dumala, Kuchibhotla's widow, will give remarks before the walk, which will begin at the Garmin headquarters: 1200 E. 151st St.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
Never miss a local story.
Participants will walk along W. 151st St. to Austins, where provided flowers will be placed to memorialize Kuchibhotla's desire for peace, according to a release for the event.
Participants will then return to Garmin. The total distance is about two miles. Participants are welcome to bring candles.
The date of the walk coincides with what would have been Kuchibhotla's birthday. He would have been 34 this week.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to register at Forever Welcome's Facebook page. Forever Welcome is a program created by Dumala and her employer, InTouch Solutions, to advocate for peace and acceptance.
