A memorial fund has been set up to help cover the funeral expenses of two young children killed in a deadly fire early Tuesday in Overland Park.
The children were killed and several others were injured when fire swept through their building at Colonial Gardens Apartments shortly before 2:30 a.m.
The complex is located at 8845 Broadmoor Court in Overland Park.
The children were identified by a family member as Henry Jr. and Alexis Mendoza-Carter. Their mother and three men from another apartment were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by the family, the children’s parents were recovering from their injuries Tuesday night.
“The family is struck with shock and grief,” a post on the page read. “All donations will be used for expenses to help bring Henry Jr. and Alexis eternal peace, they are now together forever looking down upon you.”
According to Overland Park fire officials, the mother sustained minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Two of the men — who reportedly jumped from the second floor to escape the blaze — had severe burns. The other man had minor burns.
